Legendary Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Aikulapo Kuti made the 2021 list of nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The Nigerian music icon was nominated alongside 15 other artists including rappers Jay-Z, Tina Turner, Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan and Dionne Warwick among others.
President and CEO of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Greg Harris, while making the announcement, said there will be a public vote for the inductees to stand a chance of emerging the best.
Just days after Fela’s name was spotted on the list, Nigerians have rallied round to ensure that his rank has now gone from bottom to number 1.
As at the time of filing this report, Fela maintained the number 1 spot while Tina Turner came in at 2nd.
The inductees will be announced in May after a public vote, which closes April 30.
